Suri Silk DK - I Am Smitten
If you’ve known me and my design work for a while, you know that I LOVE combining mohair/silk lace with other yarns. I may have just found a new love. Suri Alpaca is quickly becoming a new favorite fiber for me.
Suri fiber has a cool, smooth feel, it’s as soft as cashmere, warmer than wool and has a similar luster to silk. Alpaca fibers are partially hollow, which create light-weight garments with excellent thermal properties.
Suri Silk DK is the third suri I’ve brought in. I’m also currently offering a Suri Silk 328 and a true lace weight that is a direct one to one alternative to mohair silk lace, Suri Silk Lace. I am finding that the DK knits more like a worsted weight yarn and creates a super lofty, light and airy fabric.
The Suri Silk DK is 246 yards/100g of the softest, fluffiest, yarn I have ever worked with. Right now, I want to knit ALL the things with it. I am currently working on two new sweater designs, a scarf design and just released my DUALITY Cowl pattern, which uses two skeins of contrasting colors of Suri Silk DK.
I am also playing around with a random pooling dye effect which works wonderfully on the suri. The DUALITY Cowl Kits are created using this effect. I will talk more about this process in a future blog post.
If you haven’t experienced suri alpaca yet, I highly recommend it.
Happy knitting!
